130124 (An Extra 3 Hours)
That’s right, I spend 3 hours at least between getting to and from my box, working out, chatting about lifts, and any number of other things dedicated to Olympic weightlifting and Crossfit. Two days a week I get that time back, and I like to reinvest it. I consider it paying down on future successes. All the hours I can soak up learning about mobility, proper lifting, body mechanics, anything really – those are all hours of knowledge I can apply. Maybe I won’t apply it that day, or even this week, but I will apply it, even if it means not applying it – makes sense huh? I thought so. Where am I going with this? Well today I thought I’d tell you about some of my favorite depositories of knowledge gold.
The first should be no surprise, the guys at Barbell Shrugged, who run Faction Strength and Conditioning in Memphis, contain more knowledge between the 3 of them than I think I could handle in person. It’s practical knowledge too, which I think is the best kind, the kind that’s based on years of mistakes or “experience” that kind that can keep you healthier and stronger for longer.
Then comes my other podcasts, easily found on iTunes, I jump between a couple but my favorites of date are BTR: Weightlifting Talk hosted by Jon North featuring Glenn Pendlay. Robb Wolf’s “The Paleo Solution” with co-host Greg Everett. And the Wodcast which obviously is much more Crossfit-centric than the other three.
Obviously watch, or read, whatever you want and whatever you like the best and interests you. My point is simply to make the investment. I can’t tell you how much my attitudes, perspectives and just my general foundation of applicable knowledge has changed in the last few weeks listening to podcasts, watching videos, and reading articles by these people who have been kind enough to offer their expertise for free. I blog for free, but I don’t do shit, I have no special degrees or certifications, I’m just a guy who likes to hurt himself daily and tell people about it. Learn what you can, give more back.
