Grizzly Way 130302 (Bad Sleep = Bad Workouts)

Grizzly Way 130302 (Bad Sleep = Bad Workouts)

The friday night to saturday morning workout schedule is tenuous on the best rest and recovery; when you pull the rug out from that recovery process it gets pretty dicey. Being the hard headed guy that I am, I tried to caffeinate my way through the problem, unfortunately there really isn’t a true substitute for quality rest. The extra mobility work that James gave me is going pretty well, specifically the idea of pulling down into a squat has helped me get a better grasp on my clean. Not to mention I’ll use any excuse to work on mobility a little longer.

I think I’m the only person in the world who could eat a whole chicken and half a gallon of whole raw goat’s milk at 8:00 PM and wake up 10 hours later, 2 lbs. lighter. That one has me stumped, I hit my February goal weight of 210 for all of 48 hours. As good as last night felt is as crummy as today feels. Nothing left but to eat, nap and move on.

Oh and my coach Mike totaled 257kg today, snatching 118kg and clean and jerking 139kg. Qualifying for Nationals at 77kg. Doing #goatlife proud.

10RMs suck, I dread Saturday, I really need to find a way to warm these up and not get completely gassed. The front squat work Friday night really makes these squat cleans rough, standing up out of each one takes more and more out of me. Ambitiously I tried 150# and got farther than I would’ve guessed. All of the barbell work was at the same weight I did last week, at most I might’ve managed 230# but that would’ve put my 90% work at 207# which I would’ve likely rounded to 205# anyways. Not that that’s really an excuse but I’m grasping at straws today. Insult to injury my mental lapse from Monday has seemingly carried over through the week – I can’t get a single muscle up. Not one. Well one, I got one. Apparently I’m pulling plenty high and just not getting into the sit-up, put your head through, part. No clue why not…I’ve done muscle ups, plenty of them, and now suddenly can’t. Then I ripped my palm open and the best day ever got better.

Whenever things don’t right I revert back to what I know best. Food and sleep.

  1. I like your blog man. Just a thought on the MU’s. I’ve put on weight in the past and my gymnastics immediately goes to shit. Unfortunately, a pound is a pound when it comes to gymnastics, meaning a pound of muscle weighs you down just as much as a pound of fat. Just something to think on
