Lot’s of green lights in my life right now. Yesterday afternoon I had a good chat with Mike, the coach of coaches and fellow beard advocate, host of the now semi-famous (or infamous) Barbell Shrugged podcast. We touched on a few points from our last chat, namely progress and if I’m hitting the points I need to be hitting on my trajectory to the 2014 season. In large part I am still on track, more so than last cycle probably. I got the green light on my snatch floor position, a long awaited victory for me. Later on yesterday evening after training I sent him the video a little further down the page of the clean triples which also got the green light, which pleased me almost more than the snatch bit because the front rack position has kind of been my goat of late. We talked mostly about the next cycle and the plan for the next few months. Increasing training volume a bit more, adding more gymnastics as we approach the Open (yes it’s a slow approach).

After listening to Louie Simmons for an hour, I can safely say I need to buy a reverse hyper machine and start using it everyday. The road to the Crossfit games is paved with Airdyne’s and reverse hypers.

Clean 4 @ 60%, 2 x 4 @ 70%, 2 x 3 @ 80%
165, 190, 215
Power Jerk 3 @ 60%, 2 x 3 @ 65%, 2 x 3 @ 70%
165, 175, 190
Snatch Pull 4 x 4 @ 80%
Forearm Plank 60 sec

6 Rounds:
4 Toes to Bar
9 Box Jumps (24″)

Power jerks out of a rack absolutely suck. That large eccentric load back down to the shoulder is not only taxing but puts a lot of strain on the wrist and elbow and I hate it. My mission to fix our jerk blocks is failing, but with an off day tomorrow it might stand a chance. Cleans and snatch pulls went well as I touched on above, below is my last set of triples, if you look very carefully I actually not only did not jump forward to catch the weight, but actually popped backwards just a hair! It’s a strange thing to get excited about, but progress is progress and I’ll take what I can get.

  1. Hello, great blog! What app is that you’re using that allows you to put the lines thru your lifts to check form? Thanks!

    • I use Coach’s Eye on my iPhone – though they have an android version as well. Most people prefer it on iPad because its easier to see things and draw the correct lines. I know several coaches who use it regularly.
