I can’t seem to make my brain work this morning. I’m sure there’s something intelligent to say about today or yesterday, I just can’t seem to find it. I got a new toy last night, it’s not very impressive in person, but the things you can do with it are pretty interesting and should bring another interesting vector to my training.


I should probably save this picture for tomorrow’s post about today…but I’m just too excited and nothing else interesting happened to me yesterday. Mike had me buy a heart rate monitor, I opted for one that sync’s with my phone because they’re cheaper than a whole watch deal, and I think they’re easier to use, because who doesn’t know how to use a smartphone… Now I can do my Z1 work with actual data not just estimating. More importantly, Mike’s starting to prescribe rest intervals not for time, but instead down to a heart rate, to get my recovery time’s faster between efforts. It’s very Poliquin/OPT.

I’ve been talking about perspective a lot lately, and this photo I found on Reddit yesterday I thought was humorous and really applicable.


If you didn’t read a word of what I wrote about Perspective, this picture pretty much fills in the gaps. Sometimes you need to get outside yourself to really see what’s going on.

Yesterday was the third day in a row I snatched to 90% so that was a bit aggressive. My hands were pretty raw, and my pull felt pretty slow, but I still managed to get under some good weight, so I take that as a good sign for when I’m fresh again. It also felt really nice to clean again, hadn’t done that in… give or take two weeks. I missed a few reps in the 85/90% range yesterday snatching, but I didn’t miss a single clean which was really nice. Some of the jerks weren’t as pretty as I’d like, but again, off a 2 week break – I was happy not to miss any. And despite the fatigue, the heavy clean pulls actually felt really good, which is unusual.

So I think I’m probably the only person in the world that knows their 3RM no-hands front squat. It’s a strange movement. Mike’s still hammering that front rack position, trying to figure out where the weakness lies and how to attack it better. I’m trying not to over analyze the movement, I’ll leave that to Mike. I think it’s a step in the right direction for sure.
