Outlaw Way – 121007
I flippin’ love fall – the leaves turn great colors, squash are everywhere, pumpkin spice is acceptable in normal social settings and there’s a brief 3 week window when the weather is perfect for running outside. Today was supposed to be 121006 and tomorrow was supposed to be 121007 but I had to work today which means my box is closed when I would be free. That in combination with feeling a little beat up after the competition until 9:30 last night means I’ll bite the bullet and stay off my feet today.
I try to only take one true rest day per week, as I mentioned earlier in 121004. So today was just rest, eating, and bro time. Important to add to this, that I never skip a day of mobility and active recovery. For me this means at least one foam rolling session, about 30 minutes, some mobility exercises which usually focus on my lower body, hips, ankles and knees, and finally some brief static stretching just so I get a chance to hear my body and see what it has to say. This is just as much a mental exercise as it is a physical one; I like to take the time to myself – it helps me stay focused on my goals and my progress.
That’s all the boring part of the rest day; the exciting part is that I have at least 3 extra hours to eat food and chill. Today that took the shape of a trip to whole foods (a dangerous adventure for anyone on a tight budget or addicted to trail mixes, both categories I fall into) and some grilling with Cooper and my non-dog friend Ian. I also have extra time to think about tomorrow’s work, which looks quite beastly 3 attempts at 1RM C&J + Snatch, some decently heavy front squats, and an aggressive conditioning WOD. The box is only open for about 75 minutes on Sunday’s so I’ll be hard pressed to complete it all as well – but that’s what we prepare for right? Making the most of whatever life throws our way.
Too philisophical for a Saturday? Sorry I’ll go back to watching the Notre Dame – Stanford game. Go IRISH!
