Preparation and Opportunity
I read somewhere once that success is merely the intersection of preparation and opportunity. I’ve certainly got my preparation bases covered as well as I can at this point. I think the biggest thing at this point is not anything physical, those tumblers are already locked into place; no at this point the game is entirely mental. The next 24 hours or so will be all about finding a mental space to live in. By the time the first open workout rolls up, I don’t want to be thinking about past or future; those two realms won’t help me. During the open workouts you really just need to be present, in that movement, or rep, or whatever. Super insightful I know. Try and keep your minds from exploding, that could get messy.
The other thing that several blog readers have reminded me, and some friends at the box have tried to hammer in is not to forget about how far I’ve come, regardless of whether it’s far enough to succeed in the sport of Crossfit. Just registering for the open I got the chance to look at the numbers I put in last year.

For those keeping track on your abacuses – that’s over 100 pounds of lift improvements, while getting better conditioned. I’m easily the most athletic I’ve ever been in my entire life, and for some reason that point is entirely lost on me. That should be worth something.

People have asked me to keep up to date with posting my “Open” week workouts, so they can see what I’m up to outside of just the open workouts. So here is the last 48 hours before the open. Yesterday afternoon’s EMOM setup, and this mornings Airdyne session before tomorrow’s Open workout. I will likely be doing the Open workouts Friday afternoon and again either Sunday or Monday depending on how I feel. I don’t want to have to do any workouts more than twice, but might have to attempt a couple 3 times.
I also want to take some time to thank some people that have really come through for me this year, before any results or Open workouts cloud my judgement. I am truly fortunate to have such a supportive box, with people that really just want the best for each other. Further a couple companies that have really stepped up and made a big difference for me this year; namely Ben and BK Athletics and Marc Pro. Most importantly I want to thank all of you. I started this whole thing pretty blindly and I’ve been overwhelmed at times with the support and just general kind sentiment that comes out of this community.
Now it’s time to wait and see what Friday brings.
