Week 2 – Having Fun

Game of Thrones though! Am I right? I won’t spoil anything…but woooooh what a finale. And now there’s no book people to spoil anything either. So really we’re all just waiting. To answer your question, this has nothing to do with the blog – but its the internet so I feel like I’m allowed to talk about GoT pretty much anytime I want.

I’ll be honest, I don’t have a ton to say right now. Training is going again, I’ve settled into the rhythm of Barbell WOD and Wes Piatt’s programming, though he programs far too much for what my schedules allows right now, so I usually have to pick one or two pieces depending on if there’s skill WOD to do as well. The Barbell WOD is setup as a linear progression, which means it starts pretty tame, 70-75% most of the time, and goes up 5, 10 or 20 lbs. a week depending on the movement and scheme. It’s the first week of the progression and it already feels tough. Should be a fun cycle though. Finally back in the gym at a somewhat normal clip, haven’t added back PM’s yet but they’re coming soon as the volume isn’t totally destroying me anymore.

Most importantly this week and last week I’ve been trying to just have fun. Not get caught up on what the weight on the bar is, if it feels heavy fine, if it feels good, great – but really focusing on myself and enjoying training again. It’s been a good week back so far, hopefully I don’t ruin it by trying too hard.

Here’s a little snapshot of training, standard Monday

A. 2 Clean + 1 Jerk 4×1 @ 75% + 5lb/week – 225
B. 4×3 Back Squat w/3s pause (13X1) @ 75% + 5lb/week – 310
C1. Behind The Neck Press 5×3 @ 60% of C&J – 135
C2. SuperSet w/ 5×3 Bent Row – 185
D1. Max Reps Weighted Dips (Resistance for 8-12 reps) – 45 x 8
D2. Max Reps Wide Grip PullDown (Resistance for 8-12 reps) – 125 x 12

6 RFT:
3 Bar MU
6 Front Rack Walking Lunge – 185

3 x 12 Cal Strength Extensions
3 x 30 GHD Situps

Overall I’m pretty pleased with the programming, I haven’t felt the need to add too much of my own stuff… yet – though that time almost always comes. I have yet to add the Skill WOD stuff back in, but hope to do that tomorrow and in the future. The summer schedule has been a bit weird, it’s my first time having a class so late in the day which has been a huge adjustment to my schedule.

Oh yeah… I’m getting a puppy! End of July – super excited to bring home one of these.
